The patent pending OMNI phosphorus removal technology (OMNI RSF-PR™) can be easily added onto any OMNI RSF™ or OMNI-Cycle™ (OMNI RSF-CF) system for a single source to remove Nitrogen AND Phosphorus from wastewater.
Technology Description
The OMNI RSF™ system already obtains a substantial amount of biological phosphorus removal within the basic design through the controlled recycling of effluent through anaerobic and aerobic zones. OMNI RSF™ technologies can now remove phosphorus down to levels of less than 1.0 mg/L
A second removal method is utilized by precipitation where a calcium source is added to the OMNI RSF™ Filter Modules within removable media devices. A seashell or high calcium limestone mixture is added to the tops of existing modules to provide a long-term calcium source, pH conditions, and a reactive surface necessary for calcium phosphate precipitation. An optional aluminum oxide mixture is used for wastewater flows containing high levels of phosphorus.
The enhanced phosphorus removal is achieved by utilizing biological attenuation and precipitation methods. The precipitation method is achieved within filter modules packed with a media mixture containing a calcium carbonate source. The modules are pressure fed by the recirculation pump located within the OMNI RSF™ Recirculation Tank as part of the standard OMNI RSF™ operation. The amount and type of media is based on the daily flow, the amount of phosphorus contained in influent, and the subsequent required contact time.
The OMNI RSF Phosphorus Removal System design consists of a standard OMNI RSF or OMNI Cycle™ system with specially blended media. The Filter Modules are sized according to total daily design flow and wastewater strength.
The system is designed to provide the operator with a great amount of flexibility to make the necessary performance adjustments to compensate for variable wastewater quality and flow.
The Phosphorus Removal System can also be installed as an add-on to OMNI RSF™ technology. The media is added to the OMNI Filter Modules of the existing system. In some situations additional Filter Module(s) may be required to be added to the system.
Minimum Installation Requirements
The OMNI System is an easy to install treatment package. The OMNI RSF-PR System can only be installed if an OMNI representative is on site. The entire package is pre-assembled and shipped to the site in modular form with all internal piping supplied. The control package is pre-wired and requires only electrical connections to the control box. The OMNI representative on site will supervise installation of the system by the owners’ contractor.
The media source and components are supplied separately and installed by OMNI. Under normal operating conditions and for P levels below 10 mg/L, the filter cell media is expected to last approximately four (4) years.
