Operation and Maintenance Procedures

Operation and Maintenance visits are conducted on a annual, semi-annual or quarterly basis for all OMNI RSF systems. The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator will inspect the following during the maintenance visit:

Septic Tank: The Operator will check the condition of the Septic Tank and take a sludge depth measurement in order to determine if the tank needs to be pumped. The scum layer depth is also measured, and the effluent filter is inspected and cleaned, if needed.

Recirculation Tank: The Operator will check the condition of the Recirculation Tank and take a sludge depth measurement in order to determine if the take needs to be pumped. The effluent filter is inspected and cleaned, if needed.

Pumps, Switches, Floats, Control Panel and Alarms: The Operator will check the pump(s), floats, control panel (if accessable) and alarms to make sure they are operational.

Filter Modules: The Operator will check the condition of the Filter Modules to inspect for ponding and will inspect all lateral lines for blockages. If flushing or brushing of the lateral lines is needed it will be performed at the time of the maintenance visit.

Field Analysis: Field Analysis are conducted to evaluate the performace of the system and determin if adjustments are needed. These analyses include temperature, ph, dissolved oxygen, Field BOD Test, and Turbidity. In addition a visual inspection of the effluent is also used to determine if any adjustments are needed.

Testing Procedures

Effluent testing is conducted in a manner in which is sanitary and provides results of the systems performance at the time the sample was taken.

The wastewater treatment plant operator will take a "grab" sample from the manifold inside of the Recirculation Tank with a dip cup. The collected sample is immediately stored in plastic sterile bottles that have all necessary system information on them, which includes: system location, time, date, and preservative.

After the samples are collected they are stored in a cooler and put on ice for shipment to the laboratory. Results usually take 10 business days to come back. Upon receipt of the results, they are logged into our system and then are reported to the local Boards of Health and the Department of Environmental Protection.

The OMNI System Manager tracks all test results and will alerts OMNI Operators if any results exceed the allowable levels and/or if system adjustments are recommended.
